sugar magazine - august, 2008 [25 Jul 2008|08:56pm]
While most celebs are pouring themselves in from parties at all hours of the morning and avoiding the paparazzi like the plague, Brigette Dawe is getting up and heading out for her morning coffee, greeting them with a wave and her signature dimpled grin before coming round for our interview. She's not like the rest of the class from the school of young stars, and that's why we love her. 7:30 am was the only time she could squeeze me in - it's a good thing she's cute.

SUGAR: Good morning Brigette! Are you always up this early - are you always this perky this early?

Brigette: I am always up this early! It's rare for me to take a lie in, I haven't got the time. We've got a photoshoot in a few hours for the next single, and we're taping Top of the Pops this afternoon. I'm slated for a hair fix between now and then, and tonight we've actually got a night off. I can't wait to hit the pillow around 9. It'll be fab.

SUGAR: Your days are always this busy?
Brigette: Usually busier! Never a dull mo' with us lot. It takes a lot of coffee, and a good attitude. If you go into a day with a bad thought, of course it'll be rough.

SUGAR: I could believe that. You girls have another album coming out already, and a new documentary series?
Brigette: We do! The album comes on the 25th, and the show debuts a week before, if I am correct. We filmed it last month, it's basically a look into our lives when we're not being True Blue. In my clips, I'm stressfully planning a charity lunch and running around London looking for a present for my Dad's birthday. The rest of the girls have all got something uniquely them, and at the end we all come back together for a secret I can't reveal.

SUGAR: You've already released two singles from 'Tangled Up.' Are you lot planning on releasing anymore?
Brigette: Oh, definitely. We're actually hearing video treatments next week for another song, 'Can't Speak French.' There's also another one or two we're going to sort out, but we haven't committed to anything. Nothing will be out until October or so, but we'll be touring then so we need to get the videos out of the way.

SUGAR: What are you doing between now and tour?
Brigette: A lot of promotion for the album and singles. The girls are taking some time before tour, but I'm already all booked - I've got a trip to Israel with my Mum, and I'm spending two weeks in Somalia with UNICEF, building up schools and medical centres, and working with children and young women. I'll get back about three days before the tour begins, so no rest for me!

SUGAR: You're excited by the idea of no rest?
Brigette: I am not an idle person, I've always got to be doing something. I'd rather be exhausted and fulfilled than rested and bored.

SUGAR: I know everyone asks you this, but our editors insist: what's it like, openly being a virgin in such a sex crazed industry?
Brigette: I don't know if I could really say what it's like, because it's just what I am, and what I'll be until my wedding night. It's a personal choice, but I know that in this business, nothing stays personal. I like to be able to show girls they can be attractive, they can wear sexy outfits and feel comfortable with themselves, without compromising their beliefs or undervaluing themselves.

SUGAR: You're a popular role model, especially with parents of young girls. Who were your role models growing up?
Brigette: I don't know that I had many, to be honest. Dad and I were pretty far removed from all things pop culture, although I always listened to his old Beatles tapes. John Lennon was pretty remarkable. When I returned to England, I was taken with S Club 7 and Westlife, but I don't think they could be role models. My Dad was definitely a role model.

SUGAR: Last question before you go - best way to unwind after a long day?
Brigette: Rootbeer, mango popsicles, and dancing around the flat in my knickers. Definitely.
